THE WASH Project

Every Advent, since 2008, Anderson Hills United Methodist Church has raised money to build water wells in Zambia. So far, we have drilled to 59, providing clean water for nearly 120,000 people! For 2016, we partnered with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and their WASH Program. The money donated on Christmas Eve goes to building wells, teaching people how to maintain the wells, providing latrines and education on hygiene to stop the spread of disease. We are building 6 more wells this year and 20 latrines and wash stations. You can learn more about the WASH Program here: http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Programs/Global-Health/Water-and-Sanitation

Zambia Mission Trip

Zambia Trips

In July 2011, we sent our first mission team to Zambia to visit some of the well projects we have provided and to identify complimentary ways to serve the people living in rural communities and minister to their spiritual needs. There is no current plan for a mission trip but we are looking at 2018 (late summer) as a possible short visit to check out the WASH - Water, Sanitation, Hygiene - sites.

Imagine No Malaria

Every 45 seconds, a child in Africa dies of malaria. Millions of lives, needlessly lost each year. A continent. Entire nations…slipping away. Slipping through life’s precious net. Unless you hear the buzzing inside you.

Imagine No Malaria is an extraordinary effort of the people of The United Methodist Church, putting our faith into action to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother.
Since 2006, the United Methodist Church has teamed with the United Nations Foundation in the 'Nothing But Nets' campaign, sending more than 3,148,000 nets to vulnerable people in sub-saharan Africa. Now, a new initiative called 'Imagine No Malaria' seeks to expand on the success of Nothing But Nets by combining education, communications, and improved treatment with the already impressive net distribution program.
